On September 12, 2024, the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) meeting of Enugu Smart Green School Owo brought together notable figures including the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze L. Mbah, the Director for Experiential Learning, Dr. Chinyere Onyeisi, smart school teachers, and parents of students.
Dr. Onyeisi , in her welcome address, thanked parents for their dedication to their children's education. She outlined the school's work plans and explained the objectives of a recent teacher-student townhall meeting. She noted significant improvements in student behavior, which she attributed to the school's curriculum, while parents also praised the positive changes in their children. She urged parents to continue supporting their children's education, especially in areas like take-home assignments.
Teachers stressed the importance of student hygiene and punctuality, while reiterating the school's focus on practical learning aimed at fostering self-sufficiency through skill acquisition.
In his remarks, Prof. Mbah commended the parents, teachers, and school leadership for their collective efforts in advancing education. He highlighted the PTA as a platform for exchanging ideas between parents and educators to enhance student development. Prof. Mbah also announced that the first batch of graduates from the school, consisting of 35 boys and 25 girls, had been awarded full high school scholarships by the state visionary Governor, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubusi Mbah.
To the delight of attendees, the Honourable Commissioner revealed that Ms. Uchechi Edeh, the best graduating student and a remarkable talent in mathematics, had been awarded a lifetime scholarship. In addition, the Executive Governor of the state , Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah approved medical intervention and a prosthetic leg for Ms. Edeh, who has a disability. Her parents were overwhelmed with gratitude as the crowd celebrated the governor's commitment to inclusivity.
Prof. Mbah concluded by encouraging parents to instill the value of education and diligence in their children while outlining the state government’s ongoing efforts to employ quality teachers to elevate the standard of education.
