The Enugu State Ministry of Education has continued its rigorous efforts to sanitize the education sector, this time extending its crackdown on substandard schools to Nsukka Local Government Area.
In a recent development towards improving the quality of education, the Enugu State Ministry of Education, issued Notices of Closure to five schools in Nsukka Local Government Area for failing to meet the operational standards required by the state's Education Law.
The schools affected in this latest round of Quality Assurance include:
1. Okunerere Comprehensive International Academy, Nsukka
2. Prime Movers Academy, Nru Nsukka
3. Kings Academy, Nsukka
4. Divine Kids Academy, Orba Road, Nsukka
5. Kingdom Pearls Model Academy, Nsukka
These institutions were found to be in violation of Part VI, Section 49 subsection 2 and Section 53 subsection (1) (a) and (b) of the Education Law, which prohibits the establishment and operation of schools without prior evaluation and approval from the State Ministry of Education. Additionally, these schools were cited for failing to provide a safe and conducive learning environment, putting the health and well-being of students at risk.
During the inspection, it was discovered that many of these schools had unsanitary facilities and substandard infrastructure, conditions that jeopardized the health of learners.
To avoid disruption of education of children however, the Ministry served Notices of Closure to proprietors of the affected schools, warning them that the State Government will not allow them to operate after the end of this current academic term. This is to ensure that parents have sufficient time to enrol their wards into public and approved schools.
The Ministry's crackdown in Nsukka LGA is part of a larger statewide effort to guarantee minimum standards of education are being met.
